Before you call at Egypt
Pre-arrival reporting
Vessels seeking access to Egyptian ports are advised to use a shipping agent to facilitate the process. Egypt operates the Egyptian Maritime Single Window interface for pre-arrival notifications and document submission. Vessels and/or agents should expect to provide information regarding but not limited to vessel particulars, cargo, crew, passenger, voyage and health information. Please see pre-arrival information for individual Egyptian ports for more details.
The initial ETA should be sent to the vessel's nominated, state owned agent 7 days prior to arrival. Arrival confirmation should be sent 72 and 24 hours prior to arrival. The arrival confirmations should be sent through the protecting agent, if any, who will consequently convey messages and/or owner's instructions to the state agent and other involved parties.

Rules in port
Vessels fitted with open-loop scrubbers are banned from discharging effluent from Emission Cleaning Systems while transiting the Suez Canal, according to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA).
However, during the time that Egypt is not a signatory to the International Maritime Organisation's MARPOL Annex VI document, governing pollution from vessels, ships in the Suez Canal area are allowed to burn High Sulphur Fuel Oil, if they have it on board. The SCA places no conditions or restrictions on fuel oil, until Egypt ratifies MARPOL Annex VI (Jan 20).
Vessels should check the latest position on this before commencing their voyage. See website: www.suezcanal.gov.eg
