Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

The outer basin entered directly from Romo Dyb through an entrance, 50m wide, between the heads of the outer breakwaters, both of which are marked by a light (each a grey framework tower, 4m in height, floodlit). Then a dredged channel leads 0.1nm WNW to the inner harbour entrance, 30m wide, between the heads of the inner breakwaters, both of which are marked by lights and floodlit.

Caution: The harbour, especially the inner part, is liable to silting, the silt consisting of loosely bedded clay ooze which can reduce depth by up to 1.5m. The greater part of the harbour is dredged annually to 4.2m.

Restrictions

An inbound vessel has precedence, an outbound vessel being required to wait until the inbound vessel is clear.

There is a speed limit in the harbour of 3kts.
