Approach
updated May 2016Approach
Nyborg Fjord is approx 2.7nm in length, depth 11m.
The port is located 9nm from the international deep water route, "Route Tango" connecting the North Sea and the Baltic.
From a position about 1.25nm SE of Knudshoved Light (55°17'N 010°51'E), the track leads W for about 1.0nm as far as a lightbuoy (safe water) (1.0nm S), passing S of Knudshavn Flak, extending 0.5nm S from the S side of Ostero. Lille Knud, the shoaler of two below water rocks, lies on the inner part of the flat.
The alignment (306°) of Nyborg Fjord Leading Lights leads NW for 2.0nm from the lightbuoy (safe water), passing NE of Palegrund, a shoal lying on the W side of the fairway, marked by a lightbuoy (port hand) on its N side and
SW of Knudhoved Flak, close to Slipshavn Pynt. Then NE of Hvidegrund, the outer part of the bank extending 1.0nm offshore abreast Kajbjerg Skov. The alignment (331.25°) of Nyborg Havn Leading Lights, leads NNW through the dredged channel, 60m in width, for about 1.0nm to the entrance to Nyborg Havn, passing WSW of Lindholm Grund, marked by a lightbuoy and a buoy (both starboard hand). Stenhojen, a shoal, lies 0.3nm SW of Lindholm and ENE of Slotsgrund marked by a lightbuoy (port hand) and by a lightbuoy (N Cardinal).
Then ENE of Dynen Light (dolphin 2m in height) and Avernakke Hage S Light (dolphin 2m in height). The lights, exhibited when ferries are expected, mark Avernakke Hage, the coastal bank extending SSE from Avernakke Pynt, and WSW of Havgrund (0.4nm SE), a spit at the NW extremity of the coastal bank.
When in position about 0.15nm from the Front Light, the track leads either N as required for the berth of Nyborg Havn, through the entrance of Vesterhavn, marked by lights (grey mast, 5m in height on the E side; and grey post, 3m in height on the W side), or NW through the entrance of the fishing harbour, marked by a light (grey post, 2m in height on the S side; Front Light of Nyborg Havn Leading Lights on the N side).
Avernakke: From a position about 0.25nm SSE of Dynen Lights (55°18.0'N 010°47.7'E), the track leads WSW for about 0.15nm, passing SSE of Avenakke Hage and NNW of Slotsgrund, where the track passes close to the lightbuoy (N Cardinal). From a position about 0.3nm SSW of Dynen Light, the track leads NW, close W of the alignment (306°) of the Nyborg Fjord Leading Lights, through the short dredged approach channel to Avernakke Pier.
Lindholm Havn: Port approach is made through a short dredged channel 130m in width.
Directions for entering harbour. From a position about 0.9nm SSW of Knudshoved Light (55°17.0'N 010°51.0'E), the track leads NW for about 1.75nm parallel and NE of the main channel to Nyborg, and is marked by buoys (starboard hand) and leading lights: Front light (grey framework tower, 10m in height) 55°17.9'N 010°48.9'E)
Rear light (grey framework tower, 14m in height) (92m farther ENE)
From a position 0.4nm WSW of the front light, the alignment (058.5°) of these lights leads through the channel, marked by buoys (lateral) passing NNW of Lindholm Grund, marked by a buoy (N cardinal) at the inner end of the channel, and SSE of Ryggen, marked by a lightbuoy (S Cardinal), at the outer end of the channel.
Traffic schemes and VTS
There is no VTMS in operation for the port.
Anchorages
The best anchorage for large vessels close to the harbour is in Bredning, the wider part of Nyborg Fjord (55°17.9'N 010°47.8'E) off the entrance to Hocklehavn Bught in a depth of 10m, clear of the leading lines and the dredged channel. Good shelter can be obtained in all winds, but SE'ly winds raise a certain amount of sea.
Small vessels can anchor either in Holckehavn Bugt in depths from 5.5 to 8.7m, SW of the line of Nyborg Fjord Leading Lights, or in the coastal bank SE of Havgrund in a depth of 4.6m.
Prohibited Anchorage: From a position W of Slipdhavn Light (55°17.1'N 010°49.5'E), anchoring is prohibited on, or in the vicinity of, the leading lines in the approaches to Nyborg Havn and Lindholm Havn, in the dredged channels and in the entrance to the berths, and within 300m S and W of Avernakke Pier.
