Port limits

The port limits are defined by a line drawn from a point on the shore 0.75nm WSW of the mouth of Seki Kawa, NW for 1.6nm, then NE for 2.5nm, then SE to the shore.

Anchorages

It is possible for vessels of up to 1,500t to anchor within the port, between E Breakwater and East Wharf; large vessels usually anchor outside the breakwaters.

The quarantine anchorage, 1.5nm WSW of the head of W Breakwater, provides good holding in depths of 16.0-26.0m, sand and mud. The area of good holding ground is limited, and vessels have dragged their anchors. When strong W to NW winds are forecast, vessels should seek shelter off Sado Shima.

An area of foul ground exists about 0.3nm NNE of the head of W Breakwater.

Submarine cable: A wave meter is situated about 1nm NNE of the head of W Breakwater, and a submarine cable connects the meter with the shore, 2nm SSE.

Korean, Russian and Japanese communications cables come ashore close W of Naoetsu harbour limits. The cable runs NW to SE about 1nm W of the quarantine anchorage.
