Approach

updated May 2018

Approach

A channel, dredged to a depth of 6.3m, leads from Langelandsbaelt for 4nm to a position close S of Enehoje where it divides into 2 branches. Recommended max draught is 5.8m.

Main Channel: Used by large vessels, leads S of Raso Grund and between Kuddeholm and Barneholm, two islets close W of the entrance to the harbour.

Channel North of Sloto: Narrow and tortuous, with a depth of 5.5m at the W end, increasing to the controlling depth of 6.3m near the E end. Initially the channel leads NNE from a position close S of Enehoje, round Sloto, and rejoins the main channel close W of Kuddeholm.

The channel from the port entrance is 8.5m deep and widens into the harbour where there is a turning area approx 215m wide, measured from the Southern side, 8.5m deep. A shallow area lies close North of this.

Large vessels must notify the port using VHF Ch 16, and arrange a time for arriving or departing for using the ports Access Channel.

Traffic schemes and VTS

Large vessels are required to notify the port, using VHF Ch 16, and arrange a time for arriving or departing when using the port's Access Channel.

Anchorages

Vessels can anchor in the approaches to Nakskov Fjord on the E side of Langelandsbaelt, clear of the shallow water.

Sheltered anchorage for small vessels can be obtained off the NE side of Albuen in Albue Red (54°50'N 010°59'E) in depths from 3.5 to 5.5m, clay and sand overgrown with weed. Winds from W and WNW raise a certain amount of sea, but a well found vessel should be able to ride out a gale in this anchorage.

Anchorage in the harbour is limited to smaller vessels in depths of 5.5m. Local knowledge is advise.

Restrictions

A submarine cable and a pipeline exist across the inner and outer harbour. Cables and pipelines are marked.

Navigation by night can only be carried out safely with the help of searchlights, which can be provided by tug for which 24 hours notice is required. Vessels up to 2,000DWT can enter by day or night.

Speed is restricted to a maximum of 5kts in the channel between a position 0.5nm S of Hellenaes and the entrance to Nakskov Havn.

The Inner Fjord at the E end of the harbour area is designated is protected as a wildlife reserve and entry is subject to numerous regulations.

Tugs

Two tugs of 5t and 2t bollard pull up to 500t hp available. Notice of 24 hours to agent is advised. An ice breaking tug is available.
