Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

The central part of the port has a depth of 15m or more, with no obstructions for the movement of vessels within the port.

The port is entered between Hami Saki (35°37'N 135°15'E) and Kuro Saki, 1.25nm SSE.

From a position 0.7nm NNW of Kuro Saki, the recommended track leads SE, passing (with positions from Katashima Hana 35°35'N 135°14'E):

SE of Hioki Saki (1nm N), then, NW of Katashima Hana, a point terminating in a cliff. Then, SE of a lightbuoy (starboard hand) 0.5nm WNW, then, SE of the S pier of Ejiri (1.25nm WSW). The track leads SSW to a point WNW of Shishisaki Hana (2.25nm SSW). Okino Guri, 0.2nm SW of Shishisaki Hana, has a least depth over it of 14.0m, and is marked by a lightbuoy (port hand).

The track then leads S, clear of No 1 Mooring Buoy, to the entrance of the port. Draught limitation in the harbour approach is approx 10.0m.

Port limits

The port limits are defined by a line drawn between Katashima Hana (35°35'N 135°14'E) and Myoken Yama, 1nm NNW.

Anchorages

Outer anchorage: Apart from the few charted shoals, Miyazu Wan is clear of dangers in the fairway and safe anchorage with good holding ground can be obtained by all vessels.

Inner anchorage: Good anchorage is available in most parts of the port. The area S of a line drawn E and W through Shishisaki Hana (35°33'N 135°12'E) has a mud bottom and gives good holding ground. It provides a secure anchorage for large vessels.

Vessels carrying dangerous cargo must anchor in No 1 Area.

Restrictions

Berthing during daytime only. Unberthing, no time limitation, subject to adequate notice and pilot's approval.

Tugs

There are 6 tugs available, 5 x 460hp and 1 x 70hp.
