Approach

updated Apr 2017

Approach

Approaches to the harbour lead NE and ENE from close S of the Traffic Separation Scheme through Osterrenden, at right angles to Route "T", the principal route for deep draught vessels from Kattegat to the Baltic Sea.

The harbour is protected by N and S breakwaters and by a detached breakwater 0.15nm SW. A light is exhibited from a framework structure at the head of the N breakwater and similar lights are exhibited from the head of the S breakwater and both ends of the detached breakwater.

Leading lights in line bearing 073.5° lead through the entrance in a least depth of 6.3m, passing N of the detached breakwater.

Anchorages

Large vessels can anchor in depths from 15 to 27m SSW of Nygrund (55°19'N 011°05'E).

Prohibited anchorage: Anchorage is prohibited inside the breakwater and within 200m either side of the line of the leading lights in the approach to the entrance, except in emergency.

Restrictions

Halsskov Bridge (55°19.9'N 011°08.6'E) is a fixed rail bridge with 4 spans and a single leafed bascule, raised at its S end. The navigable width is 25.5m with a vertical clearance of 26.8m alongside the bascule pillar. Vertical clearance to the underside of the bascule span is 1.8m. Largest vessel allowed to pass the bridge: Length 100m, beam 25m, draught 5.7m. Bridge is opened by prior arrangement with the bridge watch.

Traffic signals are exhibited from the bascule pillar, a red flashing light indicates that the bridge will be opened and a fixed red light gives permission to pass the bridge.
