The port has various covered warehousing, open storage and mobile harbour cranes. The private port has been built to handle Panamax size vessels and Capesize vessels. The port will primarily handle cement and coal to serve the hinterland of Ariyalur, Perambalur and Tiruchi. The port has also started a feeder container service to Colombo.

The port handles bulk cargo (coal, fertilizer, sugar, gypsum, and agricultural products), break bulk (bagged cement, bagged sugar, iron scrap, timber, granite, steel plates & pipes and project cargo), liquid bulk (edible oil, petroleum, oils and lubricant), and containers.
