Inland Sea pilot is compulsory for vessels over 10,000GT. Inland Sea pilots are available at Wada-Misaki (off Kobe), Sekisaki or Hesaki (off Moji). Tomogashima pilots and Kanmon pilots are also available.

There are nine anchorages in the harbours, including five of 10,000GT, in depths of over 9.0m; anchorage is always calm, being protected by several minor islands.

No restrictions by the authorities regarding sailing but pilots are not available after sunset.

There are 7 tugs available from Mizushima; 1 x 4,000hp, 3 x 3,000hp, 2 x 2,000hp, 1 x 1,000hp.

The port of Hibi (Tamano) is located on the Inland Sea coast of Honshu in Okayama Prefecture.
The port
Tamano consists of two ports, Hibi (closed port) and Uno. Uno lies to the N of the port, and is the terminus of ferry services with Shikoku (see separate Uno entry). Hibi, which has protection of two breakwaters, lies to the S of the port and is principally a shipbuilding and repair centre. Lightering can be arranged at the Uno anchorage.
