Approach
updated Feb 2017Approach
Outer approaches: From the vicinity of
No 2 Lightbuoy (safe water) (56°41.0'N 010°38.0'E), the track leads W for about 4.0nm to Mariager Fjord Lightbuoy (starboard hand), which marks the seaward end of the approach to the dredged channel. The track then leads NW for about 2.5nm as far as Mariager Fjord Rende E Lightbuoy (starboard hand), moored on the N side of the entrance to the dredged channel, passing SW of the seaward extremity of the N part of the flat extending E from Als Odde, marked by two buoys (starboard hand), and the NE of the S part of the flat, which extends 5.0nm S to the entrance of Randers Fjird.
The alignment (262°) of Als Odde Leading Lights leads W from Mariager Fjord Rende E Lightbuoy (56°43.0'N 010°26.0'E) for 2.5nm across the flat through the dredged channel, marked by buoys (lateral). Area marks (lattice masts with white X daymarks) mark the N and S edged of the dredged channel.
From the W end of the dredged channel the track leads SW for 0.5nm through the buoyed channel on the alignment (237°) of Mariager Fjord Entrance Leading Lights. The track then leads WSW from a position 0.2nm E of Als Odde Pier for about 0.5nm through the entrance to the fjord to a position 0.1nm S of Als Odde (small boat harbour).
From Als Odde (56°42.0'N 010°20.0'E) to Hadsund (7.0nm) the channel, which is tortuous, is marked by buoys (lateral) and by twenty four pairs of leading lights, each light being exhibited from a framework mast surmounted by a white triangle with red bands, point up over a front light, and point down over a rear light.
In several places a single structure serves as a common rear light for two pairs of lights or, as the rear light for one and the front light for another. Such structures carry a double topmark, both points down over a common rear light, points together over a combined front and rear light.
The pairs of leading lights are arranged to exhibit alternate red and green lights at each successive leg of the channel, together with alignments.
Anchorages
Vessels waiting to enter the fjord may anchor close E of Mariager Fjord Lightbuoy (56°42.0'N 010°30.0'E), depth 6 to 7m, fine sand.
Vessels may anchor within the fjord, provided they do not obstruct the channel or prevent access to the piers.
Restrictions
Night navigation is restricted to vessels up to 1,500DWT, fitted with a search light.
Speed is restricted to 7kts in the dredged channel.
When it appears likely that vessels of moderate size proceeding in opposite directions will meet in one of the dredged channels, the vessel which is proceeding against the stream is to wait until the vessel proceeding with the stream has passed through the channel.
Hadsund Bridge: Fixed bascule bridge crossing at Hadsund with closed vertical clearance of 2.9m. Navigable width 26m, vessels over 12m in height width reduced to 24.5m. Free passage for commercial vessels during day time, night transit by arrangement. Bridge Master listens on VHF and signal mast displays instructions as per NP18 chapter 5.187.
Tugs
There is 1 x 500hp tug and 2 ice breaking tugs (1 x 660hp and 1 x 360hp) available.
