Tides

Range 0.4m (average). Winds between N and E can raise water level by up to 1.4m; winds between S and SW can lower it by 1.6m.

Current: The stream off Fredericia nearly always sets E as the S going current in Lille-Baelt forms an eddy off the harbour, and the N going follows the direction of the shore. The rate of the stream is reported to be up to 6kts.

Approach

updated Jul 2021

Approach

The minimum depth in the approach channel to the port is 15m. However the maximum draught through Kattegat, accepted by the Skaw pilot, is 14m.

From a position about 0.2nm S of Skanseodde E Light, the track leads generally NW to berth as required in Vesthavn or in the E part of the harbour.

The alignment (305°) of Centerhavn Leading Lights leads NW from a position about 0.4nm SW of Skanseodde E Light to the berths in the NW part of the harbour.

Anchorages

Off Fredericia space is limited to area E of Gamle Havn in depths from 15 to 26m, clear of the main channel and the approaches to the berths. Farther W the bottom is rocky.

The anchorage is not secure with N gales, as the bottom is too steep for the anchor to hold well. With strong NE winds and the N going current, the anchorage is also insecure, as a short irregular sea gets up and a considerable swell rolls in round Skanseodde (55°33.0'N 009°46.0'E).

Restrictions

There are 2 fixed bridges at the S entrance through Littlebelt, vertical clearance 33m.

Tugs

8 tugs from 3,100hp to 4,900hp available.

Mooring

Mooring men available via Littlebelt Pilot. Pilot / Fredericia port working Ch 71.

Ammoniakhavn (Lyngs Odde): Max length of vessel 207m using two mooring dolphins off each end of the quay. In unfavourable winds, masters of vessels over 170m in length must not berth or unberth at the quay, if requested by pilot. Facility currently closed.
