Approach

updated Sep 2017

Approach

Approach and entry is made direct from the open sea. From a position between Nules Lighthouse 39°49.5'N 000°06.5'W, and the artificial reef 0.2nm E, the track leads N for about 0.175nm to the harbour entrance. The harbour entrance has a depth of 6.0m.

Caution: The approaches to the harbour tend to shoal and the sandbank, which lies S of Dique de Levante, is reported to be extending S. Deeper water lies closer to the head of Dique de Poniente.

Anchorages

Anchorage can be obtained in depths between 10,0 and 12.0m, approximately 0.2nm SSE of the head of Dique de Levante (39°51.5'N 000°04.0'W) from which a light is exhibited.

Anchorage can also be obtained anywhere off Playa del Groa, a beach extending 1nm N of the port to the mouth of the Rio Bechi (Rio Seco), a river which only flows in winter, in depths of 10.0-12.0m, sand or weed. Local pilots prefer to anchor off the S part of the beach where the bottom is cleaner. The anchorage is exposed to onshore winds.

Caution: Care should be taken to keep clear of Bajo de Penas de Carambio, a sandy shoal with a depth of 4.7m over it 0.4nm SW of the head of Dique de Levante.
