Furuno ECDIS route files
NaviBoss reads and writes 6 Furuno route formats (Furuno .TXT .txt, ASCII Full .txt, ASCII Full with Asymmetric XTD .txt, CSV Position .csv, Furuno 3000 .rtz and Furuno GP-170 .gpx) among 35 route formats, both directions. Import a route from any other ECDIS or planner free, then export it for Furuno ECDIS (FMD series) and Furuno chartplotters.
Furuno formats NaviBoss reads and writes
| Format | File | What it is | How sure we are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furuno .TXT | .txt | Furuno ECDIS route list | Matches a real Furuno export |
| ASCII Full | .txt | Tab-separated route list | Matches a real Furuno export |
| ASCII Full with Asymmetric XTD | .txt | Separate port / starboard limits | Matches a real Furuno export |
| CSV Position | .csv | Names and positions only | Matches a real Furuno export |
| Furuno 3000 | .rtz | RTZ with Furuno extension blocks | Checked against real ECDIS files |
| Furuno GP-170 | .gpx | GPX with Furuno FEC extensions | Not checked yet |
How to convert a route
- Open the planner and drop in the route file you have (any of 35 formats), or plan the route there.
- Check it on the chart: every waypoint, leg, distance and turn radius.
- Press Export and pick Furuno .TXT, ASCII Full, ASCII Full with Asymmetric XTD, CSV Position, Furuno 3000 or Furuno GP-170.
- Copy the file to a USB stick and load it with your ECDIS's route import function, as its manual describes.
This format's file has no extension, and adding one stops the ECDIS seeing it: keep the name as NaviBoss saves it.
Questions officers ask
How do I convert a route for a Furuno ECDIS?
Open the route in NaviBoss (import any of 35 route formats, or plan it there), choose Export, pick the Furuno format (Furuno .TXT .txt, ASCII Full .txt, ASCII Full with Asymmetric XTD .txt, CSV Position .csv, Furuno 3000 .rtz or Furuno GP-170 .gpx) and save it to a USB stick. Then load it with your ECDIS's own route import function, as its manual describes.
Can I convert a route from another ECDIS make to Furuno?
Yes. Import the route file from the other system (for example JRC, Transas, Kongsberg or an RTZ file) and export it as Furuno. Importing is free; exporting needs a plan after the 7-day trial.
Does a Furuno ECDIS take RTZ?
RTZ (IEC 61174) is the standard route exchange file and many current ECDIS models import it. Whether yours does depends on the model and software version: check its manual. NaviBoss exports RTZ as well as the Furuno formats.
How sure is NaviBoss that the Furuno files load?
Each format says it plainly: Furuno .TXT: matches a real furuno export, ASCII Full: matches a real furuno export, ASCII Full with Asymmetric XTD: matches a real furuno export, CSV Position: matches a real furuno export, Furuno 3000: checked against real ecdis files and Furuno GP-170: not checked yet. If you have a file your Furuno unit wrote, send it and we check the format against it.

NaviBoss guides are written and checked by maritime industry experts, masters and deck officers. Each one is built from the same data the planner uses, dated, and rebuilt when that data changes. Spotted something wrong? Tell us on the feedback board.
A planning aid, not for navigation. Always check an imported route on the ECDIS against the official charts before you use it.
