There are two approaches from seaward, the S'ly most Longshuiling Hangdao and the more N'ly, Lonteng Hangdao, which has deeper water.

A new channel (Longteng Fairway outer part) has been dredged for entry/berthing. This new channel has a depth of 19.2m CD. First set of buoys of new channel are Buoy Nos 1/2 position 21°02.40'N 110°41.8'E, steer course 277° to enter channel. Old Doulongcun channel has a depth of 7.1m CD, with a max draught of 9.8m.

Traffic schemes and VTS

The Vessel Traffic System (VTS) covers all waters between Light Buoy No A2 (20°59.45'N 110°37.08'E) and Light Buoy No 46 (21°10.92'N 110°25.10'E).

Vessel Traffic System (VTS) is compulsory for all vessels over 200GT, passenger vessels, fuel tankers, natural gas tankers, assorted chemical cargo vessels and high-speed passenger vessels over 50GT.

All communication with the VTS should be in Mandarin Chinese or English (see Communications Section).

Anchorages

Anchorage No 1: Has a depth of 12.0m and can accommodate vessels of 20,000DWT or below.

Anchorage No 2: Has a depth of 20.0m, can accommodate 33 x 100,00DWT vessels.

There are also 19 anchor berths in depths of 13.0m to 34m, designated by the Harbour Master. Most of these have good holding ground with sand and mud. Vessels should note the 1.6m shoal within the Oil Tanker Anchorage lying 1.0nm E of the bulk terminal.

Anchor berths No 17, 18 and 19 are located on the N side of the main entrance channel off the SW extremity of Nansan Dao. There are also several anchorages for tankers, 1.0nm S of Shai Wei (21°09.5'N 110°25.0'E) and 1.5nm NNE of the same point.

STS Anchorage: The anchorage for large vessels to transfer cargo to a smaller vessel is situated 30km SE direction from the port channel entrance. This anchorage is centred at 20°57'N 110°10'E. The depth of this anchorage is 30-33m, bottom is mud. The wide water area and flat sea bed allows 79 vessels of 300,000DWT to moor. Can also be used for 300,000DWT vessels to wait for tide.

Anchorage is prohibited in the area of submarine cables NE of the City.

There are a number of mooring buoys for use by vessels of 10,000t during typhoons.

Restrictions

UKC: Minimum under keel clearance in new approach channel 10-12% max draught and in the old channel and alongside 0.3-0.5m.

Speed limit above No 43 Lightbuoy (21°08'N 110°25'E) is 8kts and below this buoy 10kts.

Large vessels should not overtake in Doulongcun Beihangdao, between No A2 and No A8 Lightbuoys, and one way traffic is in operation for vessels over 10,000DWT.

The Zhanjiang Haiwan Bridge crossing over Maxie Hai Chiang (21°15.10'N 110°25.09'E), N of the port area, has a vertical clearance of 59m.

Reporting before arrival

updated Mar 2018

ETA and pre-arrival notices

The vessel's agent will send instructions to in bound vessels through the coast radio station being used or via Inmarsat. The instructions usually include the time and position of the pilot boarding. The Master is required to confirm receipt of messages to avoid delays to the vessel.

If there is any dangerous cargo onboard, the Master should also report details of that cargo including description, packaging, IMO code and gross/net weight.

Should the vessel's ETA or other circumstances change, prior to arrival, the Master should send further messages.

Communications

Vessels calling at Chinese ports are recommended to use Shanghai Radio (callsign "XSG") and Tianjin Radio (callsign "XSV") for passing messages at long range. Both stations work throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible through Shanghai.

Ship Sanitation and Ship Sanitation Exemption Certificates can be renewed in all Chinese ports licensed for handling international vessels.
