Approach

updated Oct 2021

Approach

Yuzhny is approached from the S by way of a traffic separation scheme which leads N from the traffic roundabout centred on 46°26'N 030°56'E and from the W by a recommended route which leads along the coast from Odessa. The final approaches to Yuzhny are by way of a dredged approach channel that leads through the coastal bank to the harbour entrance. The length of the approach channel is 1km 530m, depth 21.0m.

Leading light beacons mark the centre line and lightbuoys mark the channel.

A new laser beacon has been installed to guide vessels through the fairway.

Caution: Channel buoys may be shifted while dredging operations are carried out.

Port limits

The port area consists of the waters of Adzhalykskiy Lyman, the sea area within 2nm of the Port Control tower (46°36.1'N 031°01.4'E) and Anchorage Areas Nos 356, 357 and 358.

Berth Nos 22, 23 and 24 are for vessels with 7.0m or less draught.

Berth Nos 21 and 25 are also used as quarantine anchorages.

If it is not possible for a vessel to proceed from the traffic roundabout to one of the anchorages named above, traffic control may give permission to anchor in area No 351, 3.9nm SE of the entrance to Illichevsk.

Tugs

Tugs, ice breakers and salvage vessels are available. Failure to order tugs will still incur a fee if required for assistance. Tugs are compulsory for vessels longer than 50m and exceeding 500GT. Three tugs with total capacity of at least 7,240hp are required for berthing gas carriers and chemical carriers exceeding 25,000DWT. Tug service should be requested 4 hours prior to berthing. Request for ice-breakers should be sent 4 hours prior leaving previous port.

Gas or chemical carriers of below 25,000DWT should have two tugs of at least 2,400hp capacity available, carriers exceeding 25,000DWT should have 3 tugs of at least 2,400hp or 2 tugs of at least 7,240hp capacity available.

Two tugs of 5,000hp are available with fire fighting equipment.
