Approach
updated Dec 2016Approach
The harbour is protected by 2 outer breakwaters, the entrance between them lying 0.5nm seaward of the harbour moles. The channel from this entrance to the inner harbour has a width of 110m and a depth of 7.2m. The moleheads are floodlit.
The principal approach to Ystad is made from SW and is authorised for a draught of 6.7m.
First make Ystads Redd Lightbuoy (55°23.6'N 013°47.5'E) (safe water). Then steer 036° on the alignment of a pair of leading lights, this line leads SE of a lightbuoy (red buoy; light group Fl(2) R 6s) moored 0.6nm SW of the head of the W breakwater.
Pass W of a buoy (spar) marking a shoal on the E side of the leading line and then between the heads of the outer breakwaters.
Caution: A submarine pipeline extends 0.5nm from the coast from a position 1.0nm W of the harbour entrance.
Port limits
The approx limit of the port is all waters inside the outer breakwaters, including the small boat harbour.
Traffic schemes and VTS
No traffic schemes exist, as such. Vessels arriving or departing must advise their intentions on VHF Ch 10.
Inward and outbound vessels have to be aware of ferries running in and out of the port.
Anchorages
Anchorage may be obtained in Spanska Redden, W of the leading line for the principal approach channel, approx 1.5nm SW of the outer breakwaters, in depths of 14.0-16.0m, sand, clay and stones with Ystad church (55°26'N 013°50'E) bearing 025° and Kasehuvud bearing 098°.
Anchorage may also be obtained in the outer road, 0.8nm SW of the mole heads, in depths of 7.0-11.0m, sand, clay and stones with the rear leading light structure open W of the front light structure.
Both of the anchorages have good holding ground but are entirely exposed to S winds which send in a considerable sea.
A submarine pipeline laid in a SSW direction for 0.5nm from the coast, 1nm W of the inner harbour entrance, is marked at its outer end by a buoy (yellow and red spar).
Tugs
Tugs to be ordered a minimum of 5 hours in advance.
