The approach channel in the Rio Para is 170km in length, 500m min width, with a general depth of 13.0m to 15.0m and over the Espadarte Bar of 12.2m, which determines the maximum draught for vessels. Vessels with max draught 10.7m can proceed up stream at any tide, vessels with deeper draught must await the HW.
Approach: The access channel to Vila do Conde is the same as to Belem as far as the island of Mosqueiro, from there onwards, vessels proceed to the port of Vila do Conde via the Bay of Marajo. There are no depth restrictions in this stretch. Vessels pass the islands of Cotijubas, Arapiranga and Carnapijo.
