Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

Entering Trongisvagsfjordur, a vessel should keep Oyrnafjall peak (61°33'N 006°51'W), in the middle of the entrance bearing 285°.

After passing Hovdatange, Kirkjugrunnur, a shoal with a least depth of 6.1m over it, lying 0.25nm SW, must be avoided by closing the NE shore, which is clear of danger outside 0.05nm. At night, a vessel should approach with Galgetange Leading Lights in line bearing 289°; when Tvoroyri Leading Lights come into line bearing 317°, they should be steered for on that bearing, which will lead up the fjord to abreast Tvoroyri Pier. A vessel of deep draught should keep a little SW of this leading line when approaching Hovdatange, as it passes close to the 11.9m shoal situated 0.25nm SW of that point; at the same time, the close proximity of Kirkjugrunnur should be borne in mind.

Port limits

A line joining the following two white beacons, indicates the outer harbour limits:

A white beacon standing on Nestangi, situated 0.25nm W of Tjaldaviksholmur and a white beacon standing on Hovdatangei, situated on the N shore of Trongisvagsfjordur, 0.75nm W of Skarvatangi.
