Approach

updated Jun 2020

Approach

Water depths range from 20.0-25.0m in the area of the SPM's. Isobatic lines run parallel to the coast as follows: 50m, at approx 20nm; 25m at approx 5nm and 20m at approx 2nm from the shore.

Tankers calling at the terminal must fix their position before arrival, especially at night. Manoeuvring within the evolution basin is safe even at night.

Port limits

There are no official limits for the port. The terminal is situated in the open sea where the waters are not sheltered.

Anchorages

Note: Vessels are requested not to anchor at a distance less than 1nm from buoys and under no circumstances, between the buoys and the shore.

Restrictions

Due to the conditions of the terminal, mooring should be undertaken only in daylight.

Tugs

Two x 1,800hp tugs, and 2 x 800hp mooring boats available for mooring vessels at the SPM's.

Mooring

Mooring Masters moor, unmoor and supervise hose lifting and connecting of all movements of all craft in the vicinity of the SPM's.

Ship's windlass (warping heads, brakes, wildcats, etc) must be in perfect operational conditions so that the ship's haul-in line/messenger can be heaved.

The max permitted draught for the terminal is 16m for SPM 601 and 18m for SPM 602, in order to ensure a safe bottom clearance even under extreme operating sea conditions.

Amidships, derrick or crane effective capacity must not be less than 10t so that the hose can be hoisted and connected.

Min free distances between forward roller/fairlead sheaves must be 0.28m in order to allow the pass of the triangular plate and chaffing chain.

The distance from bow to centre manifold must not be larger than 140m for mooring to the SPM 601, W or 180m for mooring to SPM 602, E.

Ship's manifold should be equipped with flanges ANSI-B-16.5-150psi.

Any emergency signal should also be immediately transmitted by radio on VHF Ch 16 or on 2182kHz.

The Mooring Master's station and the launches pier are located on the left edge of the Tramandai River-Petrobas concessionary area 400m up from the entrance bar.

Boat Harbour: The bar is shallow and narrow, only small, powerful craft handled by an experienced crew are able to enter the mouth of the river safely. No outer breakwater exists to serve as an immediate refuge harbour for small craft in heavy weather.

Reporting before arrival

updated Nov 2016

ETA and pre-arrival notices

Vessels intending to use the terminal should indicate ETA to the ship agent, 72, 48 and 24hrs in advance. The ship's agent in possession of ETA, informs the terminal via fax (51) 2161-5528 or by e-mail to [email protected]. Confirmation or alteration of ETA should be made 24hrs prior to arrival. All ETA's should include whether the vessel is using local time or GMT.

Communications

The control of terminal operations is managed by the Operational Control Centre (CCO), situated in the area of the tanker terminal, approx. 12km from the SPM's. Communications are made through VHF frequency (CH09 to CH11 for SPM 601 and SPM 602). A secondary means, through mobile phone is available: SPM 601 - (55 51) 9951-9079 and SPM 602 - (55 51) 9913-4812.

Notice of readiness

Arrival time is considered to be the time the vessel reaches the anchorage or the time the Mooring Master boards, which ever occurs first.

Health

Free pratique: Vessels bound for DTSUL/GERIG, when entering the SPM or anchorage area, are inspected by Health, Customs and Maritime Police Officials. The ship's agent must apply beforehand for these visits.

Special visits may sometimes be granted at DTSUL/GERIG ground facilities.

Customs and immigration

Officers, together with agent's representative will board the vessel on arrival.

Flags

The Customs flag (blue with a white star), must be flown from the vessel's mast or yard, throughout the vessel's stay in the port.

The Quarantine signal ("Q" flag) must be displayed on approach to Tramandai until free pratique is granted. The national Brazilian flag should remain hoisted throughout the vessel's stay in the port.

Notices and regulations

Important Notice: For safe operation and vessel safety, a pump operator must remain permanently stationed near the pumps and a ship's watchman must remain close to the manifold, ready to stop pumping immediately in case of leakage or accident.

One Mooring Master and 6 workers will remain onboard throughout the whole operation for unmooring and watch purposes.

At the end of the unloading the Mooring Master may request water to be pumped through the hose, for purging it, as well as service air at a pressure of 1,000psi to ensure that the hoses remain afloat.
