Approach
updated Aug 2010Approach
Torre Annunziata is approached from the S through Rada di Castellammare di Stabia and entered NE of Molo Ponente Head.
The entrance to the harbour between the mole heads is narrowed by a bank with depths of less than 5.5m over it which extends 150m SW of the head of Molo di Levante, and is marked by a light beacon (starboard hand; radar reflector).
A shellfish bed is situated close SW of the elbow on Molo di Ponente. Its outer corners are marked by a buoy and a lightbuoy (both special). Entry into this area is prohibited.
Mooring buoys are situated 300m WNW and 240m N, of the light structure on Molo di Levante.
Darsena di Ponente is situated in the N part of the harbour and is protected by a mole extending E from the NW shore. A light is exhibited from a red post on the mole head.
Anchorages
Anchorage is obtainable off Torre Annunziata in depths of more than 10.0m, sand, good holding ground.
Vessels berthed stern-on to Molo di Ponente are advised to drop 2 anchors well apart and to use plenty of cable, as SSE and SW winds raise a sea, and the holding ground is not good. Sterns must be secured at least 20m clear of the quay.
Restrictions
Vessels over 80m in length are not permitted to enter port at night.
