Approach

updated Jun 2020

Port limits

The harbour area consists of the two jetties and the total area inside the safety zone.

The safety zone is defined as the area inside the following points:

Based on Rognannes Light (63°23.0'N 008°39.5'E); from a position 016° by 1.8nm in a direction 360° by 200m, then 036° by 680m then 090° by 950m then 159° to the shore in position 035° by 2.3nm from Rognannes Light.

Traffic schemes and VTS

No vessel is permitted to enter the Equinor Tjeldbergodden harbour area unless authorised to do so by the terminal. Product tankers have first priority. When tankers are carrying out manoeuvres in connection with arrival/departure, no other vessels movements are permitted inside the seaward safety zone until that vessel is safely moored alongside the jetty or is unmoored and has left the safety zone outbound.

Anchorages

Vessels awaiting a berth will be anchored off Tyrhaug Lighthouse (63°18.7'N 008°13.7'E) or Freifojorden (63°02'N 007°52'E)

In special circumstances it may be determined to anchor at Hemnefjorden N of Tjeldbergodden.

Restrictions

Loading operations are to be stopped for all vessels when the wind force exceeds 45kts or wave height exceeds 1.5m.

The loading arm will be disconnected if weather conditions increase more than stated above. If necessary, the vessel will be prepared for departure or be secured alongside the jetty with extra mooring ropes.

Tugs

Use of a tug is compulsory for vessels over 6,000GT. Regular visitors with a bow thruster and/or specially effective rudder arrangement may be permitted to berth without the use of a tug.

Vessels calling at the product jetty without tug assistance, must before berthing perform a realistic back manoeuvre in order to ensure that the vessel is able to move into reverse satisfactorily.

Mooring

In normal circumstances all vessels will berth port side to the product jetty. Deviation from this plan must be agreed in advance with Equinor. The product jetty is fitted with quick release mooring hooks that may be operated locally or from the main control room.

The product jetty has a mooring arrangement consisting of 16 x 100t (nominal) mooring hooks arranged in 8 bollard positions. The bollard positions have capstans.

The module jetty consist of 8 mooring hooks along the wharf side and 4 along the wall side.

It is of vital importance that vessels are securely moored and maintained in the desired position. It is important that master monitor the vessel to prevent undue movement and all mooring on self tensioning winches are secured with winch brake in locked position.

The use of self tensioning winches in automatic mode is strictly forbidden.

All mooring wires shall have rope tails and connected with a proper mooring link. Wires and ropes should not be mixed in the same direction.

All vessels, while secured alongside the product jetty must provide a rig towing wire with sufficient length and strength on seaward bow and quarter, with eyes maintained just above the water level. The wires must be securely fastened to the vessel's bollards.

The master should consider necessary mooring at the Module jetty, depending on weather conditions.
