The approach is up the Bimbia River.

Anchorages

Outer anchorage may be obtained approx 1.3nm S of Tiko in Ova Pool. Anchorage my be obtained in the middle of the river in the vicinity of the wharf.

Mooring

It is usual for vessels to arrive at the end of the flood stream, drive their bows into the mud and then swing with the stream before going astern, berthing starboard side alongside the wharf. Alternatively vessels can let go an anchor underfoot S of the wharf, swing to the flood stream and then drop alongside.

The port

The port area is considerably reduced in depth by sand bars. There is quayage for lighters which work vessels at the anchorage. The port mainly handles banana, passengers and general cargo.
