Approach

updated Feb 2024

Approach

In the approach to Steinkjer, the white sector of Eggebogtangen Light bearing between 068°-088° leads N of Stornesorin and S of Ytre Logrunnen. Stornesora Light (63°58.5'N., 011°17.4'E) changing from red to white bearing 250°, astern, leads N of Kalven and Rodskjeret.

Steinkjer may be approached by passing N or S of Rodskjeret, though the preferred channel is to the N. In either channel a wide berth should be given to Rodskjeret Beacon, as shoal water extends at least 0.1nm N and S of it.

Port limits

The harbour area is bounded on the W by a N/S line approx 2nm W of Eggebotangen Light and on the E side by Steinkjer Bridge across Steinkjerelva and by the railway bridge across Figgaelva, 0.9nm ESE of Eggebotangen Light.

Anchorages

Large vessels can anchor in depths of 25.0-30m, clay, on the line joining Eggebogtangen Light and Rodskjeret Beacon. The anchorage is unsafe in bad weather from SW-NW. Vessels should not anchor farther E on account of a pipeline which extends 0.55nm W from a position 0.5nm SSE of the mouth of Steinkjerelva.

Small vessels can anchor in Eggebogen, close NE of Eggebotangen. Seaward of the sawmill and timber stores, in depths of 2.0-6.0m, sand and clay.

Vessels arriving with no pre-allocated berth are required to anchor off.
