Approach

Minefield maps are available on request from the Joint Services Explosives Ordinance Disposal (JSEOD) Office in Stanley.

Mare Harbour: The outer channel into Mare Harbour has a least depth in the fairway of 11.5m, with a max safe draught of 10.0m. Vessels with a draught of up to 9.0mcan enter East Cove at any state of tide. Vessels are not permitted to enter this area without permission from the Queen's Harbour Master.

Port limits

The territorial sea extends up to 12nm off the Falkland Islands

The following co-ordinates are supplied to assist masters in establishing the Territorial base lines:

Points between Cape Carysfort (East Falkland), Cape Percival (West Falkland) and Macbride Head (East Falkland) joined to form the "base lines".

Traffic schemes and VTS

Reporting on arrival or departure: The Reporting Line is a line joining the positions 51°31'S 057°44'W (Volunteer Point) and 51°41'S 057°43'W (Cape Pembroke). This line forms the outer limit of Berkeley Sound and Port William.

Berkeley Sound: All vessels entering or departing from Berkeley Sound should pass their Reporting Line crossing time inward or outward. A twenty four hour watch is kept on VHF Ch 16 and Ch 10 for this purpose.

If a vessel enters or leaves Berkeley Sound out of office hours and for any reason is unable to pass a report, the agent or representative should pass it to the authorities by 1000hrs the following morning.

Port William and Stanley Harbour: All vessels entering or leaving Port William should report their Reporting Line crossing time. This information should be passed as the vessel enters or leaves and not retrospectively.

It is especially important from the safety viewpoint that all vessels should report as they enter or leave.

The agent or representative may do this, provided that the report is passed as the Reporting Line is crossed.

Any vessel wishing to enter Stanley Harbour should give its entry time at the Reporting Line and its estimated time at the Narrows.

Any vessel wishing to leave from a jetty or anchorage in Stanley Harbour should seek permission by VHF from the harbour authorities before getting underway.

If there are any language difficulties, it may be necessary to request the agent or representative to pass this information to the authorities.

Note: These requirements are compulsory for vessels licensed to engage in transhipment operations in Falklands Waters.

Anchorages

Note: The "IW3" Buoy in position 51°40.29'S 057°49.82'W has a three-point mooring system extending 153m around the buoy.
