Approach
updated Jun 2020Approach
A vessel will be deemed to have arrived when in a position 3nm S of the sea island and in this position the berthing master will board from a tug.
Vessels approaching South Riding Point from the eastern entrance of Northwest Providence Channel are recommended to make departure from Great Stirrup Cay Lighthouse, p Fl (4) 15s 14m and head directly for South Riding Point Terminal.
Final approach to the assigned berth on Sea Island is directed by the pilot or berthing master.

Buoys: Buoys mark the outer channel entrance to the inner harbour, the light characteristics of red and green respectively are Iso 2s. A white buoy (Fl W) marks the 15m contour line, about 1nm W of the sea island.
Port limits
The port limits extend 3.0nm S of Sea Island. Clear approaches, no traffic separation scheme in place.

Anchorages
Due to the rapid shelving of the bottom and the prevailing SE (onshore) wind, vessels are advised to stand off the port rather than anchor if a berthing delay is anticipated.
Contact the duty berthing master, who will advise on anchorage procedures.
Restrictions
The port is closed during heavy weather from a SE-SW'ly direction when wind speeds exceed 20kts.
Tugs
Tugs are available.
Mooring
Vessels are berthed according to wind.

The berths have double and triple quick release hooks of 150t and 100t capacity.
Mooring and berthing. Mooring and berthing dolphins have electrically operated capstans with 2t line pull at 30.48m/min in association with mooring assemblies.
Vessel Connection: The position of the vessel's deck manifold in relation to the loading arms on the berth must be carried out to a close tolerance to the requirements of terminal personnel and as directed by the berthing master.
Tension winches: When a vessel is fitted with tension winches, the latter must be set to manual operation and the brakes securely applied.

Reporting before arrival

An intrinsically safe portable VHF radio will be made available to each vessel for ship/shore communications on Ch 74 during cargo operations.
Standard messages
None.
Notice of readiness

Health
On completion of mooring, customs officials acting on behalf of health and immigration authorities may board the vessel to grant pratique, otherwise the vessel is given clearance by the agent.
Customs and immigration
Copies of the Crew List and stores remaining onboard will be required before clearance is granted. Masters of vessels must take every precaution to ensure that no drugs, wine or alcoholic liquors are supplied, sold or conveyed to any person at the terminal.
In order to comply with immigration regulations, crews should be checked before sailing and any missing seaman reported to the agent. In the case of seamen left ashore for any reason, masters are requested to furnish a letter accepting responsibility for all expenses incurred, advances if any, and instructions for repatriation.
Crew change is allowed with prior notice of names of crew.
Flags
The Bahamian national flag shall be flown during daylight hours by all vessels within Bahamian territorial waters. Agents can supply the flag although no penalties are imposed for non-compliance.
