Port services

updated May 2020

Repairs

All types of marine repairs are available.

Bunkers, water and stores

Fresh water: Available at the wharves through pipelines. Water boats also supply water overside.

The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) advise that from May 2013, customers taking water from the Singapore Government public water utility PUB) will have to pay a Waterborne Fee (WBF) per cubic foot of water used.

Bunkering: Bunkers can be supplied to ships alongside the wharves and oil terminal through pipelines or overside by bunkering barges.

Approx 17,000,000t of bunkers are handled annually.

As part of its efforts to upgrade bunker delivery in Singapore, the Port of Singapore Authority has grouped steel hulled bunker tankers into Categories "A" and "B". This is based on compliance with operational manoeuvring requirements, quantity and quality control measures. Only Category "A" bunker tankers are allowed to supply to ships at container terminals and the Singapore Cruise Centre. Category "B" is the minimum expected of vessels serving Singapore's port.

LNG Refuelling: Can now also be carried out by ship-to-ship and truck-to ship transfer .

Medical

Casualty evacuation: Shipping companies which have casualties to be evacuated urgently are advised to use helicopter services to save time and reduce costs, as helicopters are able to fly out to any vessels within a radius of 160km of Singapore.

Due to the short distance from the main shipping channels to shore, a maximum of four trips can be made while the vessel passes Singapore.

Helicopters can lift sick or injured crew direct to major Singapore hospitals as most contain helicopter landing pads. Masters can radio the Port Operations Centre on VHF Ch 10 or 12.

Crew change

Crew change or shore leave is permitted via the agent's launches only.

Transport

Nearest airport: Changi International.

Nearest railway: A railway system of 18km is operated by the PSA within Keppel Wharves and is linked to the main trunk line of the Malayan Railway.

Working hours

Normally throughout 24 hours.

About Singapore

updated Sep 2026

Where it is

The island Republic of Singapore lies off the S coast of the Malaysian Peninsula.

The port

A deep harbour and strategic location has ensured the port's position as the busiest in world trade, handling most cargoes and providing all vessel maintenance and supply services, including bunkers.

Singapore is paramount as a bunkering location, with sales of nearly 50 million tonnes of fuel a year, it now offers Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering.

The shipyards of Singapore are extensive and the port is a hub for the offshore industry throughout the Asia-Pacific Region.

The largest Container Terminal in the world is currently being constructed to the West of the port area at Tuas. When all four Terminals are complete, all container port activities in Singapore will be consolidated into this one area.

Free Trade Zones: There are 7 Free Trade Zones, 6 for sea borne cargo and 1 for air cargo (Singapore Changi Airport), within which a wide range of facilities and services are provided for the storage and re-export of dutiable and controlled goods. Goods are stored within the zones without any Customs documentation until they are released into the market. They can also be processed and re-exported with minimum Customs formalities.

The Free Trade Zones at the port facilitate entrepot trade and promote the handling of transhipment cargo. They offer free 72 hour storage for import/export conventional and containerised cargo and 14 days free storage for transhipment/re-export cargo.

Imports: Crude oil, chemicals, iron, steel and manufactured goods.

Exports: Refined oil products, timber products, rubber, machinery, textiles and manufactured goods.

Traffic

Approx 600,000,000t of cargo, and 44,000,000TEU are handled annually.
