Approach

updated Oct 2020

Approach

Risavika is entered between Laksholmbaen (58°55.7'N 005°34.3'E), a rock marked by a metal light column close N of Laksholmen, and Tangen 0.2nm NE.

Anchorages

Risavika provides a good anchorage over a sand and clay bottom. Strong NW'ly winds send in a considerable swell. While anchoring, vessels must take care not to interfere with vessels mooring at the oil refinery in the SW part of the bay. Anchorage can be taken in Tananger, in depths of 6.9m - 9.1m, sand and clay. Mooring buoys are also available.

Restrictions

Awaiting berth/daylight navigation: The pilot will give instructions on VHF. Any vessels above 40,000DWT and with a draught exceeding 10m, normally berth and unberth only during daylight hours.

Tugs

Tugs are normally available up to 2,700bhp, 35t bollard pull. Tugs must be ordered in advance.

If weather conditions are near or above the port's limits, the Master, Pilot and Shell will decide if more tug assistance is needed, or if the berthing operation must be postponed. The following is taken into consideration: Wind force, wind direction, sea and swell, etc.
