Draught limitations can be increased respectively up to 9.60m, for vessels of max LOA 210m and max beam 28m and with max tidal variation, provided they operate on docks with max depth and at anchor the tide is not any lower than 40cm in respect to medium tide.
Navigation for vessels with LOA 261m, 246m and 236m and draught greater than 8.2m, 8.5m and 8.8m respectively, is permitted only in conditions of high tide.
Draught limitations can be reduced by 0.3m, for vessels of min LOA 210m and min beam 30m with low tide exceeding 40 cm.
From the Darsena San Vitale to the Darsena di Citta:-
The maximum beam for the SIR and CMC Docks is reduced to 16m.
The mooring of ships with max beam 22m and draught 4.88m may be authorized upon request, provided that weather marine conditions or the presence of other vessels between the Mobile Bridge and the North dock 3 do not render navigation insecure.

From the breakwater entrance to the Darsena San Vitale:-
Vessels other than tankers (Outgoing)
Vessel's draught can be increased by 30cm in conditions of high tide.
Larger vessels may be permitted to leave the port subject to the below limitations, with the aid of at least 2 tugs and provided that these are equipped with a radar having minimal range of 0.25nm and a perfectly working PPI of at least 16in.
Vessel's draught can be increased by 30cm when they are equipped with adequate bow thrusters.
Vessel's draught can be increased by a further 30cm when they are equipped with 2 propulsion propellers with rudders astern, the greater draught level subsequently admitted for the height of the tide remaining unchanged.

In the absence of anchor berths within the entrance and in the view of the complexity of the regulations governing the conditions for entry, mariners are required to confirm with the harbour authority before entry that their vessel's characteristics permit entry and berthing.
Entry at night is permitted with some limitations dependent on type of cargo, size and capability of vessels. Details are given in the full regulations for the port.
Merchant Shipping (Reporting Requirements for Vessels Carrying Dangerous or Polluting Goods) Regulations 1995:
The regulations implement the European Council Directive 93/75/EEC relating to vessels bound for or leaving EU ports and carrying dangerous or polluting goods. Vessels must report to the appropriate port captain/harbour master before entering Italian waters.
