It is reported that the new Al-Jazeera container terminal has been opened at Ras Al Khaimah. The Port Operator, Al Hamra Shipping and Maintenance, is to dredge the port channel up to 9.0m to handle medium sized feeder vessels, besides installing two gantry cranes. The proposed box facility is expected to be operational within the next six months. The port is handling bulk materials such as rock and aggregate for construction projects in the Gulf. Two more multipurpose jetties are being added, taking the total to nine to meet the growth of bulk and break bulk cargo such as pelletised and bagged cement.
