Draught limitation in the channel is 3.89m.
The outer entrance buoy is fitted with a radar reflector. Leading marks, aligned 345.25°, lead across the bar and further buoys mark the channel. The port should not be entered without local knowledge. A vessel with a draught of 3.4m has entered at half tide when the banks on either side were visible.
Anchorages
A confined anchorage is available for small vessels in mid channel 0.35nm NW of a fort that stands on the E entrance to the harbour.
Prohibited anchorage: An area 1.1nm wide in which anchoring and fishing is prohibited extends from the shore close W of the entrance in a SE direction for 3.5nm and then SW parallel to the coast. A further corridor 0.15nm wide extends across the estuary within the harbour close SE of the town of Qinglan.
