Approach
updated May 2010Approach
The port offers a sheltered harbour, protected by a breakwater, with an entrance width of 500m.
The port is divided into an outer and inner harbour by Otocic Katarina, Otocic Andrija and Poluotok Sv Petar, a low projection on the S side of the harbour on which there is a cement factory.
The harbour is entered between the head of the breakwater extending NNW from Rt Kumpar and Rt Prostina, approx 0.25nm NE.
Directions for entering harbour:
From the pilot boarding position, approx 0.8nm WSW of Rt Kumpar, the track leads approx 2nm N, W and SSE to the harbour entrance passing (with positions from Pula Observatory (44°51.9'N 013°51'E) W of Rt Kumpar (2.5nm WNW) then rounding Rt Ku, Rt Kumpar Breakwater Head Light (2.75nm WNW) then WSW of Rt Prostina (2.75nm NW) on which there is a signal station and a light (square stone tower, red top, 5m in height); by not less than 0.05nm.
The track continues SSE, then ESE through the outer harbour with Poluotok Sveti Petar ahead, avoiding several mooring buoys laid in the harbour.
Vessels drawing less than 5.0m may use the channel between Otocic Andrija and Otocic Katarina. This channel is dredged to a depth of 7.9m over a width of 36m, marked by 2 pairs of light beacons (each a round tower with gallery, 5m in height, port and starboard hand). Sailing vessels are prohibited from using this channel.
Vessels drawing more than 5.0m use the passage between Otocic Andrija and Poluotok Sv Petar.
After rounding the N side of Otok Uljanik, where a mooring buoy is laid approx 0.2nm N of the islet, a depth of approx 7.0m will be found in the passage between Plicina Uljanik, a rocky shoal extending NE from the E side of Otok Uljanik and the shore bank NE. Plicina Uljanik is marked by buoys (cardinal).
Anchorages
Anchorage is available 0.4nm W of St Andrea Island in depths of 12-14m.
Prohibited anchorage: Anchoring is prohibited in the approaches and outer harbour of Luka Pula.
Restrictions
Speed is limited to 8kts in the outer harbour and 5kts in the inner harbour.
Vessels leaving have priority over vessels entering.
All vessels must remain at least 50m from Otocic Andrija and Octocic Katarina, and the coast between the E point of Uvala Lucica and the moles in Uvala Pod Stine.
