Approach

Approach and entry: The port is approached through Seno Aysen and entered approximately 0.3nm NE of Punta Weste. From a position N of Punta Weste (45°27.6'S 072°50.6'W), the route continues SE passing, with positions from Punta Daniel (45°27.5'S 072°49.6'W),

NE of Punta Weste, 0.6nm W, then SW of Punta Daniel (45°27.6'S 072°49.6'W), then to the pilot boarding position 0.3nm SSW.

To assist berthing, there are several sets of leading markers and lights within the port area. Two of these sets of leading markers have flashing green lights within the main port area.

Port limits

The port limits are a line between Punta Weste (45°27.6'S 072°50.6'W) and Punta Soffia, 0.9nm NE.

Anchorages

Anchorage for all vessels is found in Bahia Chacabuco (45°28.00'S 72°50.00'W), sheltered from the NW by Isla Carmen. The best position is with Punta Weste bearing 337°, for 1nm, in depths of 28 - 44m, mud. A bank has formed at the mouth of a stream SW of this anchorage.

Due to sudden squalls in the area, vessels should veer plenty of cable.
