Approach

Approaching from W, vessels should steer W and S of Karong Katon (07°43'S 113°13'E), a small patch of sand , shell and stones, then to the anchorage N of the harbour entrance. The alignment (146°) of the W Breakwater Light (green metal framework tower, 14m in height, 07°43'S 113°13'E) and Gunung Glugu, a hill 4.5nm SE of the lighthouse, in line with that lighthouse, bearing 141°; or another hill (Weni), 10.5nm SSE, in line with the lighthouse bearing 158°, both of which lead W of Karang Katon.

The passage between Karang Katon and Pulau Ketapang is safe for moderate draught vessels. The hill, 10.5nm SSE of the lighthouse in line with the E boundary pyramid, bearing 162°, leads E of Karang Katon, but over Karang Nankok and Karang Munira. The channel is 650m in length, 15-20m wide with depths from 15.0m to 2.0m at LWS.

A buoy is moored 2nm NE of the E boundary pyramid.

Anchorages

Anchorage may be obtained in depths of 12.0m, 0.5nm N of the harbour entrance and 1nm NW of the harbour entrance. A light, 07°43'S 113°13'E, (white tower) standing 0.4nm NW of the W breakwater light marks the S limit of the anchorage.
