Approach

updated May 2010

Approach

Directions: Vessels approaching from NW will usually identify the town of Pizzo Calabro from a considerable distance, and should steer for that town until the tall, light coloured chimney (75m in height which shows up well against a dark green background, and close by two other chimneys, 60m in height, standing approx 0.6nm WSW of Vibo Valentia Marina), is distiquished. A little later the dark line of Molo Faraneo, will show up against a whitish beach.

When the E end of Longobardi village bears 180°, course may be steered for Porto di Vibo Valentia Marina.

A detached rubble breakwater has been constructed 0.85nm SW of Calata Buccarelli Light. The breakwater, 12m in width and 300m in length, lies 120m off the coast and parallel with it.

Caution: Owing to the submerged foundations of the head of Calata Buccarelli, it is dangerous to approach closer than 15m to the quay abreast the light structure.
