Vessels entering Avachinskaya Guba must request permission from the Duty Officer on VHF channel 12 at least 30 minutes prior to arrival at the boundary line.

Vessels with an LOA over 200m, beam over 25m and a draught of 9m must obtain permission from the harbourmaster. Inbound vessels must give way to outbound vessels.

Upon approach (within 1 mile) to port waters, speed must be reduced to 5 knots. the maximum speed allowed in Avachinskaya Guba is 9 knots. The depths in the central section of the Avachinskaya Guba are 20 to 24m. The shores surrounding are known to have depths of 7.3m close inshore.

Port limits

The port waters of the commercial sea port include the waters of the outer harbour limited from the N by a line joining the port and the fishing port on both the E and W coasts, and limited from the S by a line connecting the port on both sides of the harbour.

Traffic schemes and VTS

In addition, a guard vessel is stationed in position 52°57'N., 158°37'E to regulate the direction of traffic flow through the section of the fairway between the parallel of 52°56.0'N and 52°57.4'N, in which two-way traffic is not permitted. Vessels must contact Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky VTS at a minimum 30 mins before crossing the line joining Cape Mayachny and Cape Bezmyanny.

Anchorages

Designated anchorages are established in Avachinskaya Guba as follows:

Large vessels: Russian Regulated Area (RRA) No 161A (53°00'N., 158°34'E) is for large vessels with anchor berths for foreign vessels mainly on the E side of the anchorage.
