Approach

Approach

The port is approached from the open waters of the Irish Sea and entered from ENE between the breakwater and the head of a groyne.

Directions: From open water, approach to the port can be made from between W and NNE. If approaching from NW, Peel is not always easy to identify as mist collects in its valley; if approaching from N, vessels should pass:

Clear of Craig Rock (54°16.0'N 004°40.0'W) and the unmarked wreck lying WSW, then:

E of the head of the breakwater from which a light (white tower, 8.0m in height) is exhibited, then to the berth.

Cautions: An obstruction, consisting of concrete blocks protecting a sewer outfall with a least depth of 4.9m over it, lies 100m ENE of the head of the breakwater and a shoal patch with a least depth 4.7m over it lies close S of the breakwater head.

Submarine cables linking Isle of Man and Northern Ireland lies NNE through the outer harbour from a position from the shore 0.2nm E of the entrance to the inner harbour, then NW towards the Irish coast.

Port limits

Defined on Admiralty Chart No 2696.

Anchorages

Anchorage is available approx 0.5nm NE of Breakwater Lighthouse.

Restrictions

All entries subject to approval by harbour office.
