Approach
updated Aug 2020Approach
Care is necessary when entering Paroikia owing to the existence of numerous shoals which constrict the fairway to a width of about 0.2nm. The white sector of Ifalos Paroikia Light leads clear of these dangers.
From position 37°05.1'N 025°07.6'E the alignment (068°) of Akra Krios (37°05.5'N 025°08.8'E) and an uncharted church (0.8nm ENE) leads ENE passing (with positions given from Akra Ayios Fokas Light):
NNW of a 9.1m patch (0.45nm SSE), the outermost danger off a point on which stands a monument.
Then 900m SSE of a shoal with a depth over it of 2.0m (0.2nm SSE) extending 0.15nm off the S end of Akra Ayios Fokas. The leading line crosses depths of not less than 10m.
Then NNW of a 5.5m patch (0.5nm SE).
Then 900m NNW of Ifalos Paroikia (0.5nm ESE), a submerged reef with a depth over it of 1.8m, Ifalos Paroikia Light (white framework tower) is exhibited on the reef. Vessels should give the reef a berth of at least 0.1nm.
From a position 0.1nm N of Ifalos Paroikia Light, the fairway leads ESE towards the port, passing SSW of Akra Krios, which is fronted by shallows extending 0.05nm offshore.
Anchorages
The recommended anchorage is in a depth of 17.0m approx 0.3nm ENE of Ifalos Paroikia Light.
A good berth during N winds is in depths from 12.0-18.0m, soft mud, approx 0.3nm NNW of Ifalos Paroikia Light.
