Anchorage is available approx 1.5nm SW of the harbour entrance in positions 05°28.30'S 105°17.00'E and 05°28.30'S 105°17.60'E.

ISPS compliance: The US Coast Guard has determined (12/2012) that the Republic of Indonesia is now maintaining effective anti-terrorism measures in their ports. The Republic of Indonesia is removed from the list of the Countries Affected in paragraph B of the Port Security Advisory. Therefore, actions required in paragraphs C and D of this Port Security Advisory are no longer required for vessels that arrive in the United States after visiting ports in the Republic of Indonesia.
In a further effort to combat piracy, the Indonesian Government are allocating Piracy Anchor Safe Zones within some of their ports. These will be patrolled by the Indonesian Marine Police. Individual Port Authorities should be contacted about the latest information concerning these.

Panjang is situated on the southern end of Sumatera.
The port
The largest seaport in southern Sumatera, having superseded Pelabuhan Teluk Betung. The port consists of mooring buoys, landing stages and an oil jetty, and handles containers, oil, rubber, coffee, palm oil, pepper, timber, cattle fodder, corn, LPG and coal (Tarahan Terminal).
Rapid expansion has taken place at the port over the past few years as part of the acceleration of the Indonesian Government's Economic Development Plan for the Sumatra Corridor.
