Approach

A narrow (40-80m width) natural channel, buoyed and lighted, leads to the harbour, least depth 6.0m MWL. No tidal variations. Storms from NNE or from SSW can raise or lower level up to +/-1.6m. The northern limits to the port are formed by a low bridge.

Directions for entering harbour:

Neustadt Leading Lights: Front light (white triangle, point up, red border, on white mast, 10m in height) (54°05.8'N 010°48.7'E).

Rear light (white triangle, point down, red border, on white mast, 15m in height) (110m further N).

The alignment (347.75°) of these synchronised lights, situated on the W side of the harbour, leads N from the vicinity of Neustadt Lightbuoy (safe water), moored on the 10.0m depth contour approx 2nm from the harbour entrance, through a channel, min width 40m, marked by pairs of buoys (lateral), passing (positioned from the front light): W of a 3.6m shoal (0.42nm SSE) at the W extremity of Berg, the coastal bank on the E side of the entrance, and E of a 4.9m shoal (0.37nm S), at the E extremity of Steinberg, the coastal bank on the W side of the entrance.

Seeburg Leading Lights: Front light (white triangle, point up, red border, on white mast, 10m in height) (54°06.0'N 010°49.0'E).

Rear light (white triangle, point down, red border, on white mast, 15m in height) (50m further NNE).

The alignment (020.5°) of these synchronised lights leads NNE for approx 0.22nm into the harbour from a position approx 0.15nm SSW of the harbour entrance, at the junction with the channel leading NW to Neustadt Wiek.

Neustadt Wiek Leading Lights: Front light (white triangle, point up, red border on white mast, 10m in height) (54°05.9'N 010°48.0'E).

Rear light (white triangle, point down, red border on white mast, 14m in height) (60m further NW).

The alignment (304°) of these synchronised lights leads NW for approx 0.3nm through a channel, marked by pairs of buoys (lateral) to the entrance of the large yacht harbour on its SW side, opposite the jetties on the N shore.

Useful marks: Pelzerhaken Light Tower (54°05.0'N 010°52.0'E) and grey tower (0.5nm NE).

Radio mast (61m high) (red lights) (54°06.1'N 010°48.3'E) and two other radio masts (red lights) (approx 0.15nm S).
