updated May 2010

Approach

The harbour is approached from the E and entered N of a breakwater through a marked channel with leading lights. The entrance channel has a width of 180m with a controlling depth of 12.1m.

The basin and berths have a project depth of 10.7m, for current depths contact the Harbors Division.

Caution: The turns in the entrance channel, round the breakwater head and S end of the sea wall, are difficult for large vessels, except in calm weather, and tug assistance is usually needed.

Anchorages

Vessels can anchor as convenient, in depths of approx 12m, off a bight on the N side of Nawiliwili Bay, between Ninini Point and Kukii Point, 0.7nm W. There is some protection from the trade wind but the holding ground is reported to be poor.

Restrictions

Vessels berth daylight hours only, but can sail at any time.

Speed limit within the harbour is 5kts.

Tugs

One tug available, additional tugs can be ordered from Honolulu.
