Approach

updated Aug 2018

Approach

From position 37°34.0'N 022°47.3'E the fairway leads ENE passing (with positions given from the head of the mole (37°34.1'N 022°47.6'E)):

NNW of the head of the mole. A light (column with gallery on hexagonal hut, green band) is exhibited on the head, and SSE of a lightbuoy (port hand) (0.05nm N) marking the N side of the fairway, then NNW of the head of the pier (0.17nm ENE) and SSE of a buoy (port hand) (0.2nm NE) marking the edge of shallow water in the N part of the harbour. The depth in the entrance fairway is up to 7.0m.

Anchorages

Outer anchorage: The anchorage lies between NW and W of Akra Panayitsa, approx 6.0nm in depths of 10.0 to 14.0m and the bottom consists of mud or sand. The anchorage is exposed to both S and N winds, but the holding ground is good and vessels ride safely at all times of year although cargo working is sometimes interrupted. Winds from S raise a considerable sea and make boatwork difficult.

Mooring

Berthing and unberthing permitted throughout 24 hours, except for dangerous cargoes.
