Approach
updated Sep 2018Approach
The approach to Namsenfjorden from Folla, for vessels proceeding to Namsos, is N of Bjoroyvaeret (64°36'N 010°49'E) and S of Sorhunden (64°39.2'N 010°53'E), then towards Otteroya until Namsenfjorden appears open. Vessels should then steer into the fjord.
Inside Namsenfjorden vessels should steer a course which leads down the middle of the channel clear of danger until abreast Hoddoya (height 206m, 1.75nm S of Stabben), 0.9nm within the entrance.
Course should then be steered to pass N of Hoddoygrunnen (1.5m patch, 0.2nm off the N side of Hoddoya) then between Hoddoya and Otteroya.
From Hoddoya, the channel lies between the S part of Otteroya and the off lying islets at Gasoyene. The track then leads N of Kvitinggrunnen and S of Merraneset (64°27.7'N 011°26.8'E) to Namsos.
White sectors of lights lead as follows: Knappholmene Light (64°36.5'N 011°01.5'E) bearing between 105°-121° leads SW of Sorhunden, then N of Svarttaren and Svenskjeret. The same light bearing between 342°-021°, astern, leads W of Troldsteinen in Otteroya, 0.7nm SSE of the light.
Sornamsen Light (64°34.2'N 011°05.4'E) bearing between 133.5°-139.5° leads NE of Aurstoyskjergrunnen (4m patch, 0.8nm WSW), then SW of Troldsteinen. The same light bearing 326.5°-338°, astern, leads SW of Otteroya, then E of Kalvikskjeret.
Bromsneset Light (64°28.8'N 011°18.7'E) bearing between 349°-121.5° leads 0.2nm NE of Ornskaget, the NE point of Hoddoya. Then the same light bearing between 287°-293°, astern, leads N of Gasoyene, then S of Ansnesgrunen (drying spit, extending 0.15nm S of Ansneset).
