updated Nov 2021Approach
The approach channel is marked at intervals by lightbuoys, there is a shoal depth of 14.9m between Buoy Nos 14 and 15. The max draught in the channel is 13.5m.
Note: IALA System "A": Green coloured and green flashing buoys are shown on the starboard side of the channel inbound. Red coloured and flashing buoys are shown on the port side of the channel inbound. All buoys are fitted with radar reflectors.
Restrictions
Vessel should not enter the area S of 24°35'N without pilot or obtaining permission from Port Authority. As berthing is carried out during daylight hours only, vessels must arrive at No 5 Buoy (pilot boarding point) at least 5 hours before sunset.
Speed Limitation: Speed should be limited to a maximum of 8kts for 1nm before and for 1nm beyond Buoy No 1.
A submarine pipeline lies 1.5m above the seabed near the vicinity of No 10 Lightbuoy, between CFP and Mubarraz Island.
Draught/trim: Arrival draught and during mooring at SBM for vessels between 270,000-280,000mt must be more than 8.5m forward and more than 9.5m midships. Trim should be less than 2.5m by the stern with propeller fully immersed.
Mooring
The method of mooring and unmooring is decided by the pilot who will inform the Master.
The vessel is requested to provide safe accommodation ladder ready for immediate use. Vessels should have their crew ready to receive hose connection materials and should maintain a lee until this is completed. Pick up two mooring chains on forecastle which are made fast by vessel chain stoppers. The size of the Panama lead should be at least 300mm diameter complying with OCIMF standard.
After mooring is completed, a line boat should tow the floating hose string to port side of vessel and connect pick up wires to the hook of tanker crane runner. The hoses are lifted aboard one by one and connected to vessel's manifold by hose connection shore team, after mooring operation.
After the hose disconnection is completed and aft tug line is released, mooring ropes are slacked off and then dropped into water. Tug/work boat will come alongside after the vessel backs off the berth. After ship's bow has passed floating hose end, tug/work boat will collect hose connection materials, lowered down from vessels deck.
