Compulsory. Pilot to be requested at least 12 hours prior to arrival. A pilot meets the vessel at an anchorage buoy, at the Mezen River bar (66°12'N 044°04'E), at a distance of 22nm off the port of Mezen. In the event of bad weather, a pilot, at his discretion, may board the vessel in the outer roads. Pilotage cannot be effected at night. A pilot can board the vessel no earlier than 2 hours before HW in the Semzha River and the vessel may be piloted into the port no later than 1 hour before the water in the river reaches its high level. Pilots do not board vessels in rough weather (if the wind is over force 6 Beaufort scale or 22kts). In case a pilot cannot embark in the outer roads, the Master should follow the pilot boat, in its wake, to the Tolstic Point (66°04'N 044°05'E) where the pilot will board the vessel. After leaving the port the Master should disembark the pilot onto the pilot boat and then follow it to the outer roads of the port of Mezen. The pilot station is located at 0.1nm NE of the Semzha Light mark.
