Approach and entry: The port is approached from seaward and entered between the head of Nuova Molo di Ponente and Secca del Plamito, a shoal bank on the N side of the harbour entrance.
From the pilot boarding position, approx 0.6nm S of the head of Nuovo Molo di Ponente, the track leads N and WNW for approx 0.8nm into the harbour entrance, passing E and NNE of the head of Nuovo Molo di Ponente.
Anchorages
Whilst at anchor, vessels must stay not longer than 24 hours from the time of arrival.
Prohibited Anchorage: A votive statue is situated in position 37°37.3'N 012°36.0'E, the statue rises 3m above the seabed and is in 18m of water; anchoring is prohibited in that position and within a radius of 50m of it.
Anchorage is also prohibited, due to gas pipelines, extending to a distance of 2nm from the coast 2nm SE of the harbour entrance.

The port
The port of consists of two parts: The old part, Porto Canale, is a small fishing harbour at the entrance to Mazaro River; the new part, Porto Nuovo, comprises a longer breakwater in the western side, with three docks: the central, southern and the latest, Dente d'Attracco, available for Ro-Ro purposes. The E side of the port, protected by a semi circular breakwater, Antemurale Est, is, at the moment, reserved for pleasure boats and fishing ships.
