The channel leading into the harbour has a width of 70m and minimum depth of 4.0-5.0m. The port basin has min depths from 1.7m to 3.0m.
Port limits
Pelabuhan Manado is bounded by the parallel of 01°28.5'N between the coastline and a point 0.62nm offshore and the parallel of 01°30.2'N and a point 0.45nm offshore, and a line joining the two offshore points.
Anchorages
Anchorage area is located at 01°30'N 124°48'E with a depth of 55m, 0.5nm offshore. A satisfactory anchorage may also be obtained 0.35nm offshore W of Manado Lighthouse.
Caution: Owing to lost cables, vessels should keep clear of the several patches of foul ground off Manado. Most large vessels remain under way owing to these numerous patches of foul ground.
Anchorage SSW of Tanjung Tokabene is inadvisable unless the vessel moors. During the NW monsoon anchorage is unsafe.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0001-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0001-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz.

ISPS compliance: The US Coast Guard has determined (12/2012) that the Republic of Indonesia is now maintaining effective anti-terrorism measures in their ports. The Republic of Indonesia is removed from the list of the Countries Affected in paragraph B of the Port Security Advisory. Therefore, actions required in paragraphs C and D of this Port Security Advisory are no longer required for vessels that arrive in the United States after visiting ports in the Republic of Indonesia.
In a further effort to combat piracy, the Indonesian Government are allocating Piracy Anchor Safe Zones within some of their ports. These will be patrolled by the Indonesian Marine Police. Individual Port Authorities should be contacted about the latest information concerning these.

Manado is a commercial port not open to foreign trade. It is the trade centre and the chief port in the N part of Sulawesi. The port caters for local vessels handling general cargo at anchorage area and small local ferry services between Manado and the ports along the N coast of Sulawesi and Davao in Philippines. Exports include sugar, coffee, nutmeg, copra, and ebony.
