About Les Mechins
updated Jul 2010Where it is
Les Mechins is situated on the S shore of a shallow bight between Cap des Mechins and Le Gros Mechins, in the St Lawrence River.
The port
The port is primarily used for shipbuilding, used chiefly by the Groupe Maritime Verreault shipyard, which occupies the entire dock for floating repairs. There is also room for vessels to enter and leave the drydock. The port is navigable all year round with the occasional need for icebreaker assistance. A public jetty, protected on the NW side by a rock breakwater, provides shelter to small craft from all winds except NE to E.
