Approach

updated Aug 2020

Approach

Approaching Lembar from SW pass outside the shoals fronting the coast S of the town and approach the lighthouse bearing not less than 090°, which leads 500m N of Karang Medusa. Then anchor as convenient, or proceed to the oil berth. Approaching from N when the leading beacons, the rear (red; grey topmark, point down), situated 300m ENE of the lighthouse and the front (red; grey topmark, point up), 200m N of the lighthouse, are in line bearing 118°, steer for them, which leads to the oil berth.

Port limits

Pelabuhan Lembar is bounded by the meridian of Karang Medusa (Medusa Reef) and the parallel of the S entrance to Kali Jangkok and the roadstead boundary mark, 1nm N of the river entrance.

Anchorages

Lembar affords safe anchorage during the SE monsoon and transition periods inside the line of shoals extending S from Karang Medusa. During the NW monsoon physical communication with the shore is often suspended for days in succession when a blue flag is displayed from the flagstaff. Deep draught vessels usually anchor 0.5nm offshore in depths of 16.0-18.0m. An anchor watch should be set in case of dragging.

An area, 400m in width and swept to a depth of 11.3m lies between 500m and 2.25nm WNW of Lembar Lighthouse.

A submarine pipeline extends 400m W from a position 300m NNW of Lembar lighthouse at the head of which there is a flexible hose connection supported by a buoy (grey drum). Two mooring buoys (red) are situated on either side of the head of the pipeline for the exclusive use of tankers using the installation.

Prohibited anchorage for vessels other than tankers exists within a radius of 300m of the head of the pipeline.
