Approach

Approach and entry: The port is approached between Barao Reef and Denson Reef and entered between natural breakwaters 0.1nm NW of Capuntucan Point (13°09'N 123°46'E).

Approach from north-east: Recommended for ocean going vessels. From a position on the coastal track SSW of Cabadea Point (13°14'N 123°52'E), the track leads W for approx 4.5nm passing (with positions from Libog Church 13°13'N 123°47'E):

N of Catubeg Reef (3.75nm SE), lying on the same bank as Baro Reef, 0.5nm SSW, then:

N of a patch (3.25nm SSE), with a depth of 13.1m over it, which is the pilot boarding ground. From this position the track leads SSW for approximately 3nm passing:

ESE of two rocks (3.75nm SSW) lying on a bank close S of the Copra Berth. A narrow channel 0.1nm in width, between the shoal and the mainland, is deep and clear of dangers. Then:

ESE of a hotel (5.5nm SSW), with a red light exhibited from its roof. From this position the track continues SSW for approx 0.2nm to the port entrance.

Approach from east: From a position on the coastal route SSW of Cabadea Point (13°14'N 123°52'E) the track leads WSW for approx 3nm passing:

NNW of Manito Reef (7nm SE), then:

NNW of Poliqui Reef (6nm SSE), lying in the middle of the N approach to Poliqui Bay, then:

SSE of Catubeg Reef (3.75nm SE), then:

SSE of Barao Reef (3.75nm SSE), then:

NNW of Denson Reef (4.75nm SSE), distinguished by discoloured water over it. A buoy (red can) marks the S end. From this position the track leads SW towards Legaspi Port passing, NW of Legaspi Reef (5.5nm S) lying close N of an extensive drying reef N of Lubas Point (13°08'N 123°47'E).

Port limits

An imaginary line extending from Pigbucan Point due N to its intersection N to the mainland then along this latter line to the mainland, then along the shoreline of the mainland to Pigbucan Port, the port of commencement.

Anchorages

Anchorage can be obtained 0.8nm E of Legazpi Lighthouse in a depth of approximately 66m. Anchorage is not good due to irregular steep bottom of volcanic sand, rocks, and mud in patches, poor holding ground. It is open eastward and exposed to NE monsoon. During bad weather, recommended anchorage is at Sula or Coal Harbour.

Tugs

None.
