Approach

Approach

Approaches: Rada di La Maddalena is entered from W between Punta Tegge (41°13.0'N 009°23.0'E) and Isolotto Roma, 1nm SE.

Punta Tegge is a small rocky peninsula 20m in height, with a pier extending from its side. Numerous shoals lie S of Punta Tegge, and the coast between this point and Punta Nera, 0.75nm E, is fringed with shoals. A beacon (red and white bands, truncated masonry pyramid) 3m in height marks a detached shoal 0.1nm W of Punta Tegge. Scoglio Bianco, 0.2nm SSE of Punta Tegge, is marked by a beacon (white pyramid) 16m in height. Secca di Forte Tegge, 0.15nm further SE, is marked by a buoy (port hand).

Secca di Mezo Passo, 0.5nm S of Punta Tegge, is a rocky shoal on which three heads are awash. It is marked by a light beacon (isolated danger), 7m in height. Secca del Palau, 1nm SSE of Punta Tegge, is a rocky shoal on which there are 3 large above water rocks. Secca del Palau Light structure (S cardinal) stands near the S extremity of the shoal. A lighted beacon marks the NE side of the shoal. Secca Padula, 0.6nm ESE of Punta Tegge, is marked by 2 beacons (white masonry). Secca di Punta Nera, 0.15nm further E, has a depth of 1.3m over it, and is marked on its NE side by a beacon (white pyramid) 3m in height, and on its S side by a buoy (port hand). Within the fairway between Secca di Punta Nera and Isola Chiesa are several unlit naval mooring buoys.

Isola Chiesa, at the head of Rada di La Maddalena, is rocky and the summit is marked by a front leading light structure. A mole extends S from the SE corner of the island. A bridge connects the NE extremity of the island with the barrack area to the E. A light structure (red mast on pedestal) 4m in height stands at the head of the mole.

Scoglio Nasse, 0.3nm WSW of the head of the mole on Isola Chiesa, is white and marked by a beacon (white staff, black flag topmark). An above water rock, 0.05nm NE of Scoglio Nasse, is also marked by a beacon.

A passage from Rada di La Maddalena leads E into Rada di Santa Stefano from N of a buoy (starboard hand) moored 0.1nm NE of Scoglio Nasse. The fairway passes N of a light beacon (green mast on stone base) 5m in height, standing 0.1nm SW of the mole on Isola Chiesa, and which marks the shoal water on the S side of the passage. There is a least depth of 3.4m in the fairway close N of the light beacon. A submarine cable is laid from the head of the mole S to Isola Santo Stefano. A buoy (isolated danger) is moored on the N side of the fairway, 0.22nm E of the head of the mole, and marks the S limit of a shoal with a least depth of 3.4m over it.

Pipeline: A submarine water pipeline is laid close E of Isola Chiesa from a position 0.1nm SSW of Forte Camico SW to the N extremity of Isola Santo Stefano.

Directions: The alignment, on a bearing of 064°, of the light structure (white column, black stripe) 4m in height on the summit of Isola Chiesa with a light structure (mast 8m in height on white wall with black stripe) on Forte Camico, 0.22nm ENE, leads into Rada di La Maddalena between Secca di Mezzo Passo and Secca del Palau.

The alignment, on a bearing of 014°, of 2 light structures (white hut, black stripe) 1m in height, the rear one on Forte Santo Vottorio, the front one 0.5nm SSW, leads through the channel between Secca del Palau and Isolotto Roma.
